Adia
Adia is a smart control "autopilot" for heat pumps that works with your existing radiators, auto-balances rooms, automatically calculates the heat load of each room, speeds up installation, reduces disruption, and allows you to benefit from cheaper tariff times for lower bills. What's even better is that you can still also benefit from the generous Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant.

Earlier this year we trialed Adia on a local heat pump system in Totnes in Devon - pictured is the homeowner and Luke from Adia. This was a poor to average installation, and we added monitoring beforehand so we could see the before and after effect that it would have. Adia did everything it promised and then more. Installation was on a cold but sunny day and very easy, it basically took us a day, we took out a bunch of superfluous parts, hooked up the Adia unit, added the remote sensors and radiator controllers in each room, linked up the app and the homeowner set their desired room temperatures - that was pretty much it. We returned the next day for an hour to change some settings and hook up an electricity monitoring device. Adia then went to work in the background, learning about what heat the house needed, and making everything run smoothly.
The heating comfort in the house improved, the performance went from poor to good, temperature curves were set automatically and perfectly, focused upgrades were easily identified (the installer changed 1 rad), the control app is a pleasure to use for the homeowner, and they tell us that their running cost halved!

One secret to Adia's success is that sensors in each room combined with automated radiator valves constantly measure and match how much heat the room needs, with how much it receives. This is turn means that the central unit knows how much heat your whole house needs and controls the heat pump accordingly.

The control app, in contrast to most heating controllers, is a pleasure to use and understandable. You gain the ability to have different set temperatures in different rooms, and can make good use of times when electricity is cheap to reduce your bills further.
You may notice a lot of people on support forums with poorly performing heat pump installations. That's an unfortunately common situation, which doesn't help anyone, and that is something we want to be part of avoiding, with Adia as part of our solution to doing that.
We are now looking for a few more homes in Devon and Cornwall to take part next.
At the moment Adia is designed to work with single-zone radiator heating systems. So if you have multiple zones, or underfloor heating circuits, that support is on the way, but it is not available yet. In which case we can help you out with system design, an intro to an installer, supply of parts, and support throughout - see our heating design and consultancy service.
If you are in Devon or Cornwall and are interested in taking part then go to the Adia website to learn more, fill our the eligibility form, and we will be in touch.
