Homebuilding and Renovating Show

Homebuilding and Renovating Show

Our thanks to everyone who visited our stand at the Homebuilding & Renovating show, it was a pleasure to meet and talk with you. And what a lot of projects were on the go; renovations, refurbs, extensions, conversions, newbuild, self-build, and there was even someone turning an underground water tank into a house!

We were showcasing and talking about a wide variety of various ways to provide renewable heating and hot water, and design considerations so that you end up with a comfortable home, and reasonable running costs.

Below are some links to more information about some of the products we showed and topics we discussed. We do also welcome you to make contact and talk with us, we are here to help with your project.

Klover Smart 120 central heating wood pellet cooker

Klover wood pellet boilers

Klover specialise in wood pellet boilers for homes and make a wide range of models, most of which are designed to be installed inside your house. This means that not only do you benefit from automated wood central heating, but you also gain a cosy feature in the room.

Klover wood pellet boilers are best suited to rural projects and homes with relatively high heat loads from around 8 to 30kW. We had a Smart 120 central heating cooker at the show, which is an ideal drop-in replacement for rural oil-fired cookers.

Klover Miss Air wood pellet stove

Klover wood pellet stoves

Klover make wood pellet stoves which do not have a central heating function, instead they simply heat the room they are in. These are fully automated, and can be controlled via a timer, a remote, or an app. Compared to a woodburning stove there is less intervention needed, and they are automatic and will turn themselves on and off, and provide a continuously efficient burn.

Klover Venus stove

Klover low emission wood stoves

Klover make some exceptional wood stoves, some of which have very low particulate emissions levels - 15mg/m3/hr or less. For comparison the EU-wide limit under Ecodesign legislation is 40 mg/m3/hr. They are elegantly designed and made with robust use in mind.

Opus stoves

Opus wood stoves

Opus are classically-designed cylindrical wood stoves with generous glass windows. They are easy to use, and have low particulate emissions. The Calypso we had on show is a boiler which can provide hot water and heating, making it well suited to well insulated homes where you do not want too much heat going to the room. It’s the only Defra Exempt wood boiler stove in the UK which means it burns cleanly enough to be used in Smoke Control areas.

Clivet heat pumps

Clivet heat pumps

We had a Clivet air source heat pump at the show, remote monitoring kit from Planet Devices which lets you and your installer see system efficiency, and a helpful book called “Bodge Buster” to help you navigate the world of heat pumps and get an optimised installation.

Woodfire boiler stoves

Woodfire boiler stoves

Woodfire provide a range of wood boiler stoves with relatively low heat outputs to the room. From the freestanding Passiv to large inset models which can come with high outputs suited to heating larger homes, and there are even a couple of double sided models.

Fondis inset stoves

Fondis inset stoves

Fondis make a series of inset stoves designed to be built into the wall. Many feature doors that slide up and into the wall to open, and they can be used with the door shut as a stove, or open as an open fire. Fondis are very efficient, easy to use, and with big windows for a large view of the flames.

LK mixers and gadgets

Various gadgets including LK valves and controllers

We showed various hydronic parts including mechanical and electronic valves, safety devices, link-up devices and controllers. These all help you to get the best from your heating system, and in the simplest, low-maintenance way we can achieve.

Airsmart controller

Airsmart

Airsmart is a clever device for wood stoves being installed into well-sealed/airtight homes. It has a door sensor which allows it to open a sealed vent to the room when the door of the stove is opened. This is to stop the stove smoking into the room when the door is opened, and to stop the need for a permanent hole in the nicely-sealed room when the door is shut.

There is also a combined controller which monitors the temperature of the stove and can automatically regulate the air supply to it to achieve an efficient burn while you put your feet up, as well as adding in safety features like turning the stove down if it is getting too hot.

grants

Grant schemes

There is a grant scheme called the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. £7.5k is available for homes switching from fossil fuelled heating systems to a heat pump, and £5k is available for rural homes switching from oil or lpg to a wood pellet boiler. Although newbuild cannot access the grant, the scheme is also open to self-build projects.

You can read more about Grant schemes here, or you might like to contact us.
