Ecodesign is set to take effect for stoves in 2022 although mandatory energy labelling, which is part of it, comes in before that, in 2018. Ecodesign is perhaps the broadest and most sweeping legislation to be applied to stoves so far, and sets strict emissions and NOX limits as well as a minimum efficiency levels. The dust emissions limit is perhaps more stringent that that already set for Smoke Control Areas in the UK, meaning that by 2022 all new stoves will likely be cleaner than those which are currently permitted for use within cities.

We see no need to wait and the manufacturers which we work closely with are of the same mind. As an example we are proud to already be the UK representative for Walltherm, who make the most efficient stove in the world. Many of our stoves already meet the Ecodesign criteria (years ahead of schedule) and we show these on the site with an "Ecodesign Ready" logo. Of course we are working with our manufacturers to further improve those stoves that do not currently meet the criteria, or to introduce newer, improved models.
